Documentation

Everything Vellform does, and the numbers behind it.

Every table on this page is generated from the same code the product runs on, so a documented figure and an enforced one cannot disagree.

Getting started

  1. Describe the form. On the Create page, write what you need, or pick a blueprint. Each blueprint is a full brief including the visual direction.
  2. Watch it build. The editor opens and the assistant works through it, streaming every step: which tool it called and with what.
  3. Adjust anything by hand. Every question, rule and theme token is editable directly. Editing by hand costs no credits.
  4. Publish and share. The form gets a public link. Responses land in your Inbox.

Themes and typography

A theme is a set of tokens — colours, fonts, corner radius, shadow, card style and a background treatment — resolved to CSS variables that the renderer paints from. Changing a token changes the form everywhere at once.

  • Backgrounds can be a solid colour, a two-point gradient, a four-point mesh, a repeating pattern, or a photograph.
  • 7 curated font pairings, or any family from the Google Fonts catalogue for headings and body separately.
  • 12 complete presets for the brand kit, each a full palette and type treatment.
  • A brand kit per workspace. Set your logo, palette and type once and every new form starts from it — the assistant is told those colours are deliberate and keeps them unless you ask for a different look.

Conditional logic

Rules show, hide or skip based on what somebody has answered. A rule has one or more conditions, combined with all or any, and an action. The assistant can write them from a description, and it reads the existing rules before it deletes a question so a rule is never left pointing at nothing.

Responses and exports

  • The Inbox spans every form. Pick one form to compare answers in a table or read a single question across every response.
  • Partial responses. Multi-page forms save as people go, so an abandoned form still shows what was answered and where they stopped.
  • CSV export includes a signed link column for every file and signature. Those links last seven days, which the column header states.

Uploads and signatures

  • File uploads are capped at 25 MB, and the form's author can set a lower limit per field.
  • Signatures are capped at 1 MB — a few strokes of PNG — and that ceiling is fixed, so a signature field cannot be turned into a general file drop.
  • Allowed types are an allow-list of documents and images. No archives, nothing executable.
  • Files are stored privately. Opening one requires a signed link that only the form's owner can request, and it expires in five minutes.

How credits work

A credit measures AI work. Everything that is not AI work is free: opening the editor, editing by hand, publishing, collecting responses, exporting.

  • Each plan includes a monthly allowance, from 25 on Free to 1100 on Premium.
  • The allowance resets each billing period and does not carry over.
  • You can buy a top-up of 250 credits for $18. Purchased credits sit on top of the allowance and survive the reset.
  • At zero, AI requests stop. Your forms keep working and keep collecting responses.
  • Settings → Credits lists every run and what it cost.

Plan allowances

Every plan includes the entire builder. What a paid plan buys is a larger allowance.

Rate limits

These exist to stop a runaway script, not to pace normal use. Read the scope column: some are per address, some are per workspace.

Webhook deliveries are signed, so your endpoint can verify the request came from us. Delivery targets are restricted to an allow-list of hosts per integration.

What we haven't built

The most useful section on this page. If one of these matters to you, you should know before you subscribe rather than after.

  • Custom domains. Forms are served from Vellform.
  • A template marketplace. You can start from a blueprint, but there is no catalogue of templates other people have published.
  • A published uptime commitment. We do not offer a service level agreement, so we do not advertise one.
  • Security certification. We hold none and we claim none.

Recently built

These were on the list above until recently. They are listed here rather than quietly deleted, because a page that only ever grows shorter is not a record of anything.

  • Team seats. Invite people by email from Settings → Team as an admin, editor or viewer. Seats are counted against your plan, and a pending invitation holds one.
  • Email notifications. Set a notification address in a form's Integrations tab and every submission is emailed to you, with the same retry ladder and delivery log as a webhook.
  • Removing the Vellform badge. Available on Pro and Premium, and enforced when the form is published rather than in the browser.
  • Automatic deletion of old responses. Set a retention period per form. Nothing is deleted unless you choose one — the default is to keep everything.
  • Undoing an account deletion. Deletion is now scheduled rather than immediate. Signing in within 30 days cancels it.
